If you are planning your wedding entertainment and looking for some alternative Wedding Entertainment Ideas Magician Roger Lapin can provide some very unique and engaging entertainment for all your guests.
Wedding Entertainment Ideas #1 – A Magician!
Performing at various times during your day with many flexible options for performance times and bookings. Roger will ensure all your guests are entertained whilst you are enjoying your wedding day.
Entertainment for a wedding reception is not something most couples think about but for those that do your guests are in for a treat!
The most popular time for a Magician is to perform during the photographs / drinks reception. Whilst you are busy being the centre of attention, getting your photos taken, the guests may need some entertainment, it is the perfect ice breaker for friends or family who may not have even met before.
A Magician is perfect for this and always great fun. A Magician is also great for entertaining during the wedding breakfast where guests at a table may be feeling awkward not knowing anybody else. Magic allows them to find common ground and is a great starter for conversations after Roger has moved on.
This video was filmed at Sopley Mill, Hampshire.
Performance Times – During the Photos
This is the most popular performance time. After you have returned from the church there will probably be about 2 hours for the drinks reception / photos. Roger will mingle with your guests and perform close up magic whilst everyone waits for their photos and also whilst you are having your photographs taken.
During the Wedding Breakfast
This performance usually continues from the photos or Roger can start at any time. With an 8-10 minute interactive performance he will ensure everyone at the table is involved. A wedding reception magician is a great ice breaker for guests that have maybe never met before. Roger also has a special routine for the newly married couple leaving them with an everlasting memory.
Wedding Reception Entertainment Ideas
Most venues will need time to clear away the tables where your wedding breakfast took place in order to prepare the dance floor whilst the band or disco setup. Roger can entertain your guests during this time while they are waiting for the evening celebrations to get started. If you are wondering how to entertain guests between ceremony and reception then a wedding magician could be the perfect choice. Finally if you are expecting more guests for the evening this is another great performance slot. Guests arriving for the evening will be unaware you have had a magician performing during the day. Roger can then stay into the night until everyone has seen some close up magic.
If you are expecting a lot of guests Roger can usually accommodate a mix of all of the above. e.g performing during the photos, then take a break whilst the wedding breakfast is being served (Roger would request that you can arrange for a meal for himself also).
He will then provide a second performance towards the end of the wedding breakfast and then take another short break. There will then be a third performance for your evening guests. This package is typically for larger weddings and he would usually be in attendance for 4-5 hours with a performance time of 3+ hours.
If you are looking for cheap wedding entertainment a Magician might not be the best choice so you could consider some alternative ideas that might not cost as much. If you are having a small wedding a Magician is perfect for an intimate performance, the smallest Wedding Roger has performed it was 6 guests and the largest was 700 guests!
This was an Indian wedding and he was working with 4 other magicians.
So whatever your wedding plans are, large or small unusual or alternative, send Roger a message and he can provide you a quote to add some magic to your big day!

If a Magician is not your cup of tea as some people do see them as being a bit quirky! Roger can highly recommend some other unique wedding entertainment ideas for your big day.
Alternative Wedding Entertainment Ideas
Another very popular idea for wedding entertainment is a Caricaturist
Expect to pay up to £500 for 2 hours, this will normally provide you with a drawing every 5 minutes. It’s a great keepsake from your wedding day but don’t expect them to be able to get to everyone, this is an art and not a photo but some of the results are amazing.
Very similar to a Caricaturist is a Silouette cutter.
Using a very small pair of scissors they can cut out your silouette on a piece of black paper and present it to you in a small frame, this is more amazing than the Caricaturist but is rarely seen.
However you don’t have to spend a lot of money, some of the best wedding entertainment ideas are free. Get a big board and put up some baby photos of the wedding party and get guests to guess who is who?
2. Firework Display
One of the most stunning ends to a Wedding reception is to watch a firework display. From a few rockets to a sychronised routine to music firework displays are just amazing to watch. They also produce some amazing back drops for your wedding photosIf you are based in Hampshire then we can recommend New Forest Fireworks
Now, having a DJ at your wedding is not really a wedding entertainment idea that you will not have thought of already, nearly 75% of weddings will have a DJ as their default evening entertainment. But have you considered using the DJ for things other than your evening music. They might be able to come earlier and setup and you could use their sound system as a PA for your speeches, a DJ also works as a great master of ceremonies, if you are not into they typical Red coated guy, ask your DJ if he could perform those duties?
If you are looking for a wedding DJ we can highly recommend the
4. Singing Waiters
These have to be the best alternative wedding entertainment you can book.
They are not cheap, but having your waiters stop mid service and burst into song is a sight you have to see, you can have one or many singing waiters we have even seen them call the chef out of the kitchen who was also a singer!
Since they hit the wedding scene a few years ago there have been many different companies providing this service, but we would highly recommend thebestsingingwaiters.com
5. Fish & Chips Van
Now not strictly wedding entertainment, but who doesn’t like Fish & Chips. Having a fish and chip van turn up at your wedding to feed the evening guests is a great idea and will certainly be a talking point for many years.
If you don’t fancy fish and chips, you could also get a pizza van or ice cream van.
6. Wedding Band
This is the ultimate wedding entertainment (after a Magician of course!) A live band playing at the evening party is the best way to get everyone up and dancing.
We can highly recommend Elite – the Hampshire Wedding Band
Elite are an extremely popular and exciting live wedding, party and events band based in Hampshire. Made up of four reliable and professional musicians, they provide a great live show guaranteed to get your guests up and dancing from the first song to the last.
Standard Wedding Service
Their setlist is perfect for a crowd of mixed age and they always rock the house. This means they are ideal for weddings and parties! They also offer excellent value. You don’t get a band of this experience and class at this price anywhere in the UK.
As standard Elite provide the following:
- 2 x 60minutes of live music between 8pm and midnight.
- Set list of classic dancefloor fillers from 60s – current chart.
- Professional PA, sound engineer, stage lighting and pre-mixed disco before & after live sets (so you don’t need to hire a DJ).
- PAT tested equipment and Public Liability Insurance (required by the majority of wedding venues).
- For weddings the band can plat your choice of first dance learnt and performed.
The band can also offer an hours background music to entertain guests between your ceremony and wedding breakfast.
7. Circus Performers
Now we are getting very alternative here, there are so many different types of circus performers you could have for your big day, but the two we have seen the most at weddings are fire jugglers and living statues.
First lets look at Fire Jugglers
Available to hire from www.circusuncertainty.com/fire-performers/

Living statues are more for the daytime and are a brilliant way to add an element of surprise to your big day. Check out these guys, imagine having them stood around in the garden during your drinks reception!
Or have one or two waiting at the entrance to the wedding reception and then as certain guests go by they can come to life!
