The average price a Magician charges for 2 hours of close up magic performed in the south east of the UK ranges between £200-£500.
This mainly depends on where and when your wedding is and how many guests you are expecting.
For example a small wedding for 30 guests on a Thursday will be much cheaper than a wedding for 200 on a Saturday.
Magician prices are also dependent on the following;
- How many years of experience does the magician have .
- Are they a member of the magic circle?
- Do they have public liability insurance?
- Are they a member of equity?
- How local are they to your event.
Some magicians will ask for travel expenses to be covered over a certain distance.
You could find a magician who will only charge £50-£100; this is usually because they are just starting out and wanting to gain experience.

Magician Hire Prices UK
Magician prices can be seen as a bit of a mystery as most most magicians do not publish them on their websites. This can be seen as a magician trying to cover up how much they charge.
The truth of the matter is that every job is different and the price a magician charges depends on the type of event, the day of week, duration of performance and number of guests.
It is always said that the price for anything goes up when you mention a wedding. But the truth of the matter is wedding magician prices are the same as anything else, you get what you pay for.
For a typical event / party. I will quote for 2 hours and perform magic for 2 hours and then leave.
A Wedding is a little different in that not everything always runs exactly to schedule as there are speeches and guests moving from outside to inside, sitting down, room turn around etc.
This all adds time to what would normally be a 2 hour performance.
I will typically quote for an extra 30 minutes for any wedding I perform at purely to allow for any delays and to ensure the performance is relaxed and in keeping with the day.
There is nothing worse on your wedding day than the Magician saying
“Sorry, got to run I have another wedding to get to!“
I will only ever perform at one wedding per day, and I may not be the cheapest wedding magician around but I can guarantee you that every single one of your guests will get to see some magic and I will not leave until everyone (especially the bride and groom) are happy.
So the big question is “How much does it cost to hire a magician?”
Like any trade there are always going to be magicians who are very cheap and those who charge a fortune.
There are also close up magicians who are prepared to perform for £50 pounds and a meal and others who charge well over £1000.
Close up Magician Prices
This is all well and good but the big question is how much do you want to spend on hiring a close up magician?
If your budget is tight and you really want a magician and can’t afford £300 then booking the £50 and a meal magician is going to be the best bet for you. Your magician will probably be quite good and just starting out and wanting to get some experience and will probably do some great tricks. What they will lack in is real world performing experience and that may or may not be an issue for you.
It also depends on what the event is? If it is your wedding then you probably don’t want to risk hiring someone who is just learning the ropes, on the other hand if you are just having a joint birthday party with a friend and you thought a magician might be a good addition to your party entertainment then it is probably worth a try.
The second option is the average £250-£500 price range, within here you will also find many magicians who are all working magicians and will give you a great close up magic performance.
Close up Magician Prices over £500
As with anything they say you get what you pay for. There are close up magician prices that start at £500 and upwards for 2 hours of close up magic. Now it is debatable that you are going to get any better magic performance by spending more money but what you will be getting is a magician who is more famous or a tv magician. If you want to hire Dynamo or any other famous magicians to perform at your wedding I do not even know how much that would cost? I would imagine that his fee is going to be a lot more than £500. A London Magician for hire will tend to charge a lot more, that is mainly because of the client base and the competition is a lot higher
Wedding Magician Prices
If you are getting married and looking for a close up magician to provide your wedding entertainment you may be wondering how much are wedding magicians? The average cost of a wedding magician is between £300 – £500 for a 2-3 hour performance.
Now some people think that a magician puts their prices up just because its a wedding.
This is not the case, when I perform at a wedding I will offer the bride and groom a variety of packages ranging from a few hours to performances throughout the entire day.
The longer I performs for the the more it is going to cost.
So typically for an average wedding of 100+ guests I would recommend a 3-4 hour attendance with a 2-3 hour performance time.
How much do Magicians charge UK for birthday parties?
This depends on what the birthday party is?
If you are looking for a children’s magician to perform at your 7 year olds party – then you are looking at hiring a magician for a 45 minute show, expect to pay from £100-300 depending the size of the show and giveaways etc.
If you are looking to hire a magician for your 50th birthday party, then again depending on the size of the party you could be looking at a 2-3 hour performance or even hiring more magicians.
Pricing is much the same as a wedding – (See above)
So if you were looking for some information on how much does a magician cost to hire I hope this has been helpful.
My name is Roger Lapin and I am a Close up Magician in Hampshire.
Hiring a Magician for a wedding is a bit different as most magicians have different packages based on the performance times during the day, also the running of a wedding day can sometimes not go to plan so most magicians will factor in some extra time to allow for speeches, guests sitting down to the wedding breakfast and any problems that could mean your guests missed out on some magic.
For an average wedding of 60-80 guests I would normally attend for 2 1/2 hours and perform magic for over 2 hours. This adds in some flexibility to work with the day.
This depends on what you want the Magician for, how many guests, what day of the week and where your event is. For a personalised qoute please click here – https://www.rogerlapin.co.uk/contact/
This depends on where and when the event is. For most professional magicians one hour will be quite expensive and each hour after that will cheaper
