As a Wedding Magician I get invited to perform my close up magic at many weddings a year and to date every single one of them has had children there.
Most people getting married are of the age where children will be in the picture.
So it was with a bit of surprise that I received an enquiry this week to perform at a wedding where there will not be any children as it has been specified on the invitations!
Now this is the choice of the bride and groom and for whatever reasons they have they don’t want any children at their wedding reception.
They don’t have children themselves but do have friends who do, but didn’t want any children at their big day.
Adult Only Wedding
So this got me thinking, for some parents reading this the thought of a day away from the children would be bliss. We all need our time out and as much as we love our children a day off now and again is a welcome break. However at a wedding these are normally days for families to meet and children are just part of that and I can’t imagine attending a wedding without the children.
If you do choose to have an adults only wedding, you have to fully commit to it. And that means, no exceptions, including not having any children in the bridal party – no ring bearer or flower girl.
This does seem a bit sad as some of the most memorable moments and amazing photos from weddings have been where are children involved.
But at the end of the day it is the bride and grooms big day and whatever they want they can have.
I would love to hear from anyone reading this if invited to attend a friends wedding and the invitation said no children would you attend the wedding leaving your little ones at home or would you say, “Really sorry but if the kids can’t come neither can we.”
There is also the question of at what age are they no longer children? Would a 17 year old be invited?
Entertaining Children at Weddings
Now I love performing magic at weddings and children just love magic. I don’t have a separate child routine and an adult routine I perform my magic for everyone and just adjust it for the children. If there are younger ones there who would appreciate a balloon animal then I will make one or five! It always goes down very well and there is usually a budding magician there who wants me to teach them a few tricks.
